Tax Poem

Again, just something I came across.

At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it.
Be sure to read all the way to the end!

 Tax his land,
 Tax his bed,
 Tax the table
 At which he's fed.

 Tax his tractor,
 Tax his mule,
 Teach him taxes
 Are the rule.

 Tax his work,
 Tax his pay,
 He works for peanuts
 Anyway!

 Tax his cow,
 Tax his goat,
 Tax his pants,
 Tax his coat.

 Tax his ties,
 Tax his shirt,
 Tax his work,
 Tax his dirt.

 Tax his tobacco,
 Tax his drink,
 Tax him if he
 Tries to think.

 Tax his cigars,
 Tax his beers,
 If he cries
 Tax hi s tears.

 Tax his car,
 Tax his gas,

 Tax all he has
 Then let him know
 That you won't be done
 Till he has no dough.

 When he screams and hollers,
 Then tax him more,
 Tax him till
 He's good and sore.

 Then tax his coffin,
 Tax his grave,
 Tax the sod in
 Which he's laid.

 Put these words
 upon his tomb,
' Taxes drove me to my doom...'

 When he's gone,
 Do not relax,
 It's time to apply
 The inheritance tax.

What in the hell happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

The Death of Common Sense

Just a little something to think about

I cannot vouch for the facts, but I liked this email I received:

An Obituary printed in the  LondonTimes........ Interesting and sadly rather true.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
Why the early bird gets the worm;
Life isn't always fair;
and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in  charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intent ioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Obama Signs Fair Pay Act - His Female Staffers Made 78% of Males' Pay in SenateFriday, January 30, 2009 By Fred Lucas, Staff Writer

By Fred Lucas, Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama, keeping a campaign pledge, signed a law Thursday to make it easier to sue employers for pay discrimination.

In a ceremony in the East Room of the White House flanked by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden, Obama spoke as Lilly Ledbetter – a former Goodyear Tire manager from Alabama, whose case inspired the new law – stood beside him.

“While this bill bears her name, Lilly knows this story isn’t just about her,” Obama said. “It is a story of women across this country still earning just 78 cents for every $1 men earn, women of color even less, which means that today in the year 2009, countless women are still losing thousands of dollars in salary, income, and retirement savings over the course of a lifetime.”

Women who worked on Obama’s Senate staff last year, however, were themselves paid on average 78 cents for every dollar a man was paid, according to data last year from the Report of the Secretary of the Senate. (Full story at CNSNews.com)

Obama crosses Pelosi on contraception spending

By Drew Zahn

Shortly after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to defend family planning services as beneficial to the economy, President Obama has appealed to Democrats to strike $200 million in funding for contraceptives from his proposed $825 billion economic stimulus package.
"While [Obama] agrees that greater access to family planning is good policy," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, "the president believes that the funding for it does not belong in the economic recovery and reinvestment plan."
If the funding added by congressional Democrats last week and targeted through Medicaid to help organizations like Planned Parenthood provide contraception remains in the stimulus package, Republicans warn of a backlash.
"Regardless of where anyone stands on taxpayer funding for contraceptives and the abortion industry," House Republican Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, told LifeSiteNews, "there is no doubt that this once little-known provision in the congressional Democrats' spending plan has nothing to do with stimulating the economy and creating more American jobs."
Instead, Boehner argued, the congressional Democrats were trying "to force taxpayers to subsidize contraception and the abortion industry."
Boehner continued, "How you can spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives – how does that stimulate the economy? You can go through a whole host of issues that have nothing to do with growing jobs in America and helping people keep their jobs."  (Full story at WorldNetDaily)

Unfaithful Catholic Politicians: 'Does It Get Any More Pathetic Than This?'

How many of the ordinaries of these Catholic politicians will rebuke them for voting against restoring the Mexico City Policy?

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Inside Catholic) - Only 6 of the 24 Catholic Senators voted “yea” to restore the Mexico City Policy. Last week President Obama rescinded the policy of President Bush, and first instituted by Reagan, not to provide federal funds to organizations doing abortions overseas.

Six of the eight Catholic Republican senators voted "YEA," to restore the policy: Martinez (FL); Brownback (KS); Bunning (KY); Vitter (LA); and two newly elected senators: Johanns (NE) and Risch (ID).

Two Republican Catholic senators who frequently vote anti-life with Democrats on life issues voted against restoring the policy, thus allowing federal funds to be given to groups providing abortions overseas: Murkowski (AK) and Collins (ME).

hese two Republians joined 16 Catholic Democrats voting "NAY," including the “pro-life” Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. (PA). Not voting was Sen. Kennedy (MA).

Does it get any more pathetic than this? (Full story at Catholic Online)

Michigan stigmatist dies after a quiet life

The Michigan family man was a Knight of Columbus, a retired factory worker and a World War II vet. He also was apparently a stigmatist. Joseph O'Brien has the story in our Feb. 8 issue:

"Irving 'Francis' Houle's death early this year didn't make national news. He wasn't what the world would consider either a mover or a shaker.

"But his death touched many in the Michigan Upper Peninsula Diocese of Marquette and around the country who knew Houle through his prayer ministry and as a healer of bodies and souls.

"By all accounts, he led a relatively normal life. He was survived by his wife of 61 years, Gail Houle, and five children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was raised on a rural farm in upper Michigan, graduated from a Catholic high school and served in the Army during World War II with an honorable discharge in 1946. He was a factory worker and a Knight of Columbus.

"And he also apparently had the stigmata. Read more.
