The Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) may expel Bishop Richard Williamson if the outspoken prelate does not renounce his views on the Holocaust, according to a SSPX priest. Father Matthias Gaudron, appearing in a German television interview, said that Williamson had been given until the end of this month to distance himself from Holocaust denial. The bishop's statements, he said, had damaged the SSPX by giving the inaccurate impression that the traditionalist group encourages such views.
Bishop Bernard Fellay, the superior of the SSPX, has issued a public call for Bishop Williamson to retract his public statements. But he did not mention the possibility of ousting his fellow bishop from the society.
