Attacks on federal marriage protections could create ‘legal Armageddon’

Washington DC, Feb 5, 2009 / 08:31 pm (CNA).- Radical left-wing Democrats’ attempts to repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) could lead to “rapacious lawsuits” and “legal Armageddon,” one commentator warns.

Niger Innis, who is an advisory board member of Alliance for Marriage and national spokesperson for the Congress of Racial Equality, wrote in the Feb. 4 Washington Times commentary that President Barack Obama should not inflict “great harm” upon the “future of marriage” by allying with those who “falsely invoke” the Civil Rights movement to “radically” change the definition of marriage.

Innis claimed that certain legislators and their media allies are pushing for a repeal of DOMA, which he called the “legal underpinning” of marriage amendments passed in 30 states. (Full story at CNA)

CatholicCulture.org
February 05, 2009

Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk of Cincinnati, Ohio, has lodged a strong protest against a week-long sex-education workshop being conducted at the University of Cincinnati, sponsored by a company that markets sexual paraphernalia. The archbishop said that the staging of the "Sexploration" event at the local public university is "profoundly disturbing," saying that the school was showing "gross disregard of the moral sensibilities" of the community.

“Gay-Friendly” Miami Archdiocese Features Goddess-Worshipping Nun at Diocesan University

By LexEtLibertas

February 5, 2009, (LifeSiteNews.com) - Just days after the Vatican announced that Pope Benedict XVI has ordered an apostolic visitation of all non-contemplative women’s religious orders in the United States, LifeSiteNews has learned that a notorious Catholic dissenter, known for her promotion of goddess-worship and “eco-spirituality,” is scheduled to speak at the Miami Archdiocese’s Saint Thomas University.

Sr. Miriam Therese MacGillis, O.P will be presenting a lecture, “Cosmology, Faith, & Sustainability,” at Saint Thomas, on 24 February.

Many lay Catholics have documented Sister Miriam’s dissent from official Catholic doctrine on various matters. Sister Miriam is an active proponent of so-called “eco-spirituality,” a quasi-pantheistic religious movement recently chronicled in some detail in Sarah McFarland Taylor’s book "Green Sisters: A Spiritual Ecology." Taylor, an Episcopalian sympathetic to the eco-spiritual movement, has chronicled this heterodox belief system, and her book features Sister Miriam MacGillis and the community she co-founded, Genesis Farm. Iran tells Obama he must 'accept' the Iranian nuke program

It's only taken two weeks for countries to start dictating foreign policy to us.

by Rick Moran
If I lived in the Middle East, I would be building a bomb shelter.

A spokesman for the Iranian regime has stated that if the US wants better relations with Iran (and if not, why bother talking to them?) then the United States must accept Iran's nuclear program - among other impossibilities:

On some issues – such as the removal of US troops from Iraq and stabilising Afghanistan – Iran and the US can find common ground.

Others, particularly Iran’s claim that its nuclear programme is peaceful in nature and so advanced that it has become a fact on the ground, could prove the two sides’ differences are irreconcilable. (Full story at American Thinker)

Vatican Official: Bishops Have no Choice But to Refuse Communion to Pro-Abort Politicians

By Hilary White

ROME, January 30, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Archbishop Raymond Burke, in an exclusive interview last week, told LifeSiteNews.com that the issue of pro-abortion politicians continuing to receive Holy Communion is still one of major concern and that it is the duty of bishops to ensure that they are refused.

He told LifeSiteNews.com, "I don't understand the continual debate that goes on about it. There's not a question that a Catholic who publicly, and after admonition, supports pro-abortion legislation is not to receive Holy Communion and is not to be given Holy Communion."

"The Church's law is very clear," said Archbishop Burke, who was appointed last year by Pope Benedict XVI as the head of the Church's highest court, the Apostolic Signatura. "The person who persists publicly in grave sin is to be denied Holy Communion, and it [Canon Law] doesn't say that the bishop shall decide this. It's an absolute."

Bush Was Right. Again.

Most disgracefully, our new president -- a man who would run over his grandmother to get in front of a camera -- could only manage a lame written statement "congratulating" the Iraqi people on holding elections..

by Monica Crowley
You'd never know it from listening to the lamestream media this weekend, but Iraqis went to the polls in nationwide provincial elections. Turnout was strong, and there was not a single major act of violence.

The early returns show a repudiation of the Islamist and other religious parties which had been in large part dominated by Iran. Secular parties, and in particular, the party of the current Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, appear to have gained position. This is a huge step toward a secular, stable representative democracy in Iraq.

“This Much We Know.”

Posted by Ryan Sayre Patrico on February 5, 2009, 9:18 AM on First Things

At this morning’s National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama addressed the audience:
“Far too often, we have seen faith wielded as a tool to divide us from one another—as an excuse for prejudice and intolerance,” President Obama says. “Wars have been waged. Innocents have been slaughtered. For centuries, entire religions have been persecuted, all in the name of perceived righteousness.
“There is no doubt that the very nature of faith means that some of our beliefs will never be the same. We read from different texts. We follow different edicts. We subscribe to different accounts of how we came to be here and where we are going next—and some subscribe to no faith at all.
“But no matter what we choose to believe, let us remember that there is no religion whose central tenet is hate. There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being. This much we know.”
No, Mr. President, I wish we did.

THE NEW WORLD DISORDER United Nations' threat: No more parental rights

Expert: Pact would ban spankings, homeschooling if children object.

By Chelsea Schilling

A United Nations human rights treaty that could prohibit children from being spanked or homeschooled, ban youngsters from facing the death penalty and forbid parents from deciding their families' religion is on America's doorstep, a legal expert warns.

Michael Farris of Purcellville, Va., is president of ParentalRights.org, chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association and chancellor of Patrick Henry College. He told WND that under the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, or CRC, every decision a parent makes can be reviewed by the government to determine whether it is in the child's best interest.  (Full story at WorldNetdaily)

Save The Children (From Global Warming Propaganda)

By Marc Sheppard

He alone, who owns the youth, gains the Future
 -
Adolf Hitler, 1935

No regime in modern history exploited propaganda as diabolically and successfully as did the Third Reich, thanks, in large part, to its focus on those most vulnerable to their ideological manipulation -- children.  And with more American adults seeing the cold truth behind warming misinformation, alarmists are stepping up efforts to brainwash our schoolchildren using a playbook that would have impressed Joseph Goebbels himself.

Of course, green schooling was surreptitiously introduced years ago when teachers began espousing benign environmental distractions like "Earth Day." But trendy nontoxic slogans like "reduce, reuse, recycle" eventually opened the door to the destructive propaganda of teaching Al Gore's scientifically-challenged movie in science classes.  Which soon facilitated a California Law mandating unbalanced Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) theories be included in public school curricula. And that paved the way for today's second installment of a malignant little program cleverly crafted to indoctrinate our impressionable youth on a chillingly massive scale.

Obama Agonistes

By R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. on 2.5.09 @ 6:09AM

WASHINGTON -- Egads, it is going to be a long four years! It is only two weeks since the Prophet Obama's inauguration, and already he has revived memories of Boy Clinton's first 100 days. Political observers with a sense of history might well ask whether the Obama Administration will approximate the adolescent incompetence of Clinton Administration or the Pecksniffian pratfalls of the Carter Administration. Presidential historian that I am, allow me to caution my fellow citizens that here in the vestibule of the Obama Administration it is probably too early to say. Yet with the economy in crisis and American national security in the hands of a starry-eyed novice, one can argue that we are in for a reprise of the Carter years complete with the self-righteous pout.
